Penelope was established in 2009 by two emerald prospectors named Saigon and Kobra who ventured to the lands of Oakland amidst a revitalization of its nightlife scene. People in Oakland had long been clamoring for a watering hole where one could enjoy a delicious drink along with some tasty snacks and great company. Penelope was among the new wave of establishments opened in the Oaktown Age of Antiquity (pre-2010), an era comprised of businesses catering to a young new group of urbanites, as well as a time marked by the release of Almodovar's "Los Abrazos Rotos". Yes, Penelope was christened after the artist known to this realm as Penelope Cruz whose likeness looks down upon us in the form of a portrait painted by none other than the artist Miguel Navarro Velazquez. Penelope, now ran by Kobra and his lovely bride, continues to serve up delicious eats and craft cocktails to the many people looking for a welcoming space.
